Matt Metzler grew up in Kettering, Ohio. He graduated from Miami University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Integrated English/Language Arts Education and a minor in English Literature. Earlier in 2014, he completed research for an honors thesis within the English Department about the connections that can be made between early modern drama and transgender theory. He currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana.

Matt is the creator of Brickwork, an independently-produced, progressive magazine for the Miami University/Oxford, Ohio community. The magazine stopped production in mid-2014. Brickwork aimed to serve as an outlet for various kinds of progressive writing in and around Oxford, Ohio, and to sponsor and organize various community events and demonstrations.

In October 2014, Matt self-published his debut novel A Better Person after a successful crowd-funding campaign via Kickstarter. In 2017, Matt relaunched the book and began selling the remaining copies of the crowd-funded edition of 120, now including a new, separately-bound essay entitled “For Better or Worse: Reflecting on A Better Person, My Body, and Karl Ove Knausgaard.” You can purchase a copy of the book plus the essay for $8 here.

In March 2015, Matt published Anberlin Forever, an online, interactive, book-length biography for Florida rock band Anberlin, covering their entire career from their formation in 2002 through their final year as a band in 2014.

Currently, he is in the early stages of developing a novel.
